Every Sunday we post a short, easy, Sunday Video Challenge for you to consider adding to your social media video-centric content publishing strategy.

Here's the challenge this week...

"Make WEIRD Size Videos For Facebook Posts"

You don't have to stick to a standard video size in the FB timeline.

Apparently, Facebook's native video player will play just about any video resolution in the timeline.  (We'll be testing the limits this week)

Here's why you should try different video sizes in just one word:

Engagement.

I've been preaching that you should produce "square" videos for quite some time now.   Typically videos are shot at a 16:9 widescreen resolution like, for example, 1920x1080 pixels when you shoot video in landscape mode.  But when you edi

The short version of why I talk about doing square videos for Facebook and Twitter is that the video takes up more real estate on on the screen and ultimately has proven to have better engagement overall.

Well, the video below is not square and it's not a standard widescreen video either.  In fact, the dimensions are 690x475 (at lease as I measure it on my screen).  

I didn't even bother to figure out what that aspect ratio is because it seems that it just doesn't matter (to Facebook)

Earlier today I spotted a video in my Facebook timeline and I recorded my screen so I could share it here with you. - - Have a look.  It's not square, it's not standard widescreen, it's just a weird size without any standard; which apparently is fair game on the Facebook timeline within reason.  I'm just not sure what Facebook considers within reason just yet.

Why Is This A Big Deal?  Why Care?

Basically, what this means, is that you can get a whole lot more creative in your social media videos now.

You can present your content in a way that best visualizes your message and create your OWN canvas with the native Facebook video player (Unlike television or even YouTube)

Also, and this is a biggie, you can maximize the real estate that your post takes up in the timeline (especially on mobile).
